Matt - Team Leader Complaince Response
Rising to the challenge: how Matt’s love for community empowers him
It takes a lot to faze Matt, and that’s partly why he’s so good at his job. As Team Leader, Compliance Response, Matt is thrown his fair share of curveballs. He and his crew of nine are responsible for dangerous dog control, illegal dumping and tree clearing across the Redlands Coast mainland. On the southern Moreton Bay Islands, their mandate extends to other local law issues as well.
It’s a varied and busy role, and Matt and his wonderful team rise to the challenge every day. It helps that Matt’s highly motivated by a genuine desire to serve. Community service is something he knows a thing or two about, having worked as a police officer in New Zealand for seven years before joining Redland City Council.
“I like helping people, particularly helping communities. As a police officer, I worked in a tough area but loved the community aspect. When I returned to Australia, I was ready for a change but still liked the compliance aspect, so this job appealed to me.”
Incidentally, Matt, who’s an Aussie, only agreed with his partner to return to Australia if they settled back on Redlands Coast. On weekends, you’ll find him hitting Redlands Coast trails on his XC race bike. His passion for the region motivates him in his role - Matt genuinely cares about seeing our beautiful region protected.
He also cares enormously about his incredible team.
My team is very dedicated, but we still have a lot of fun doing a serious job. They are good people, I’ll do anything to help them. I want to see them stay with Redland City Council and I want to enable that.”
