Danielle, meet our teamProtecting public health: how a capable young leader supports her community

Pinned to the corkboard on Danielle’s desk is a 2017 Christmas card from a local Scouts Group, thanking Danielle and her team for enabling their special event. Danielle keeps the card as a daily reminder of why she does her job.

As Service Manager of Health and Environment, Danielle and the three teams she manages are responsible for Redland City’s public health. Danielle’s role involves making determinations and enacting programs that deliver the best outcomes for community safety. This frequently means working with community groups and local businesses to ensure compliance in areas like food safety, mosquito control and noise pollution. Often, Danielle deals with people she knows by name and genuinely cares about.

“I’ll have business owners call me and ask, ‘Danni, this is what I want to do. Can I do this?’ and I’ve said, ‘No, but we can work with you to make this happen.’ We really try to support our businesses and come to solutions together.”

Danielle was just 25 when she was promoted to Service Manager, after serving as Team Leader for a year. It could have been a daunting step for this young woman who was only four years out of university but Danielle says she was, without exception, treated with respect and made to feel welcome.

“Redland City Council has a really fair and equitable recruitment process. I was very young, but I put 100% into my role and did my job well, and that was recognised. The executive team has allowed me to show them what I can do as Service Manager, for my team and our community.”

Danielle is truly one of our great young leaders. She’s achieving big things with us, and we look forward to what she and her award-winning teams can achieve in the future.
