The Pastor Glen Gray Award honours the memory of Pastor Glen Gray (1936 – 2020) who was a Redlands Coast community champion and the driving force behind the Redland City Mayoral Prayer Breakfast.

As a long-serving veteran committee member, Glen’s commitment to local causes such as food banks, free community events and the prayer breakfast which supports state school chaplaincy programs is a wonderful part of his legacy.

The inaugural Pastor Glen Gray Award was presented to a worthy school chaplain at the Redland City Mayoral Prayer Breakfast in October 2020.

The Pastor Glen Gray Award recognises an outstanding school chaplain on Redlands Coast that has demonstrated significant social, emotional and spiritual support to students, parents and school employees.

The recipient of the annual award is announced as part of a special presentation at the Redland City Mayoral Prayer Breakfast event.

The recipient will be acknowledged across media channels and will receive an individually engraved award, framed certificate as well as the Pastor Glen Gray Award perpetual plaque which resides in the Office of the Mayor of Redland City.

Eligibility

Participation is open to all chaplains that are employed within a Redlands Coast school - (State, Catholic and Independent).

Nominations may be submitted by anyone within the Redlands Coast school communities who wishes to recognise a school chaplain for demonstrating significant achievement and providing an additional dimension to care and guidance through role modelling and programs that foster supportive and positive relationships.

Recipients must satisfy the criteria as set out in the Pastor Glen Gray Award Nomination Terms and Conditions below.

Award criteria

The award recognises a Redlands Coast school chaplain that has demonstrated outstanding achievement and extraordinary outcomes through one or more of the following areas:

  • Social and emotional support
  • Spiritual support
  • Mentoring
  • Community development
  • Educational support
  • Extra-curricular activities

Nomination submissions should outline how the chaplain has demonstrated and improved social, emotional and physical wellbeing with students, families and their communities resulting in improved learning outcomes, inclusive and safe environments and positive partnerships.

How to nominate

Submit your nominations online in three easy steps

  1. Go to the Online Nomination Portal
  2. Complete the required details
  3. Attach the supporting information

Nomination guidelines

  • Nomination submissions should not exceed six A4 pages including supporting information and documentation
  • Nominations should be submitted as one complete file and be no more than 20MB
  • Nominations should not include the publication of details specifically identifying students
  • Nominations must be endorsed by the school principal
  • Nominations should include a brief biography of the nominee (maximum 200 words). This summary will be used for media promotions if required
  • Nominations must be lodged electronically via the Pastor Glen Gray Award Online Nomination Portal

Nomination conditions

  • Nominations can only be submitted online via the official nomination form found in the Online Nomination Portal
  • Nominations provided in hard copy or by way of email, USB or cloud storage will not be accepted
  • Supporting information will only be accepted via the online upload function within the online nomination forms
  • The nomination must address eligibility and award criteria relating to the nominee in order to be a valid nomination. Redland City Council reserves the right to decline nominations if they do not meet the criteria or if nominations are incomplete or if the information is incorrect
  • You may be contacted after submitting a nomination and asked to provide further details including photographs, videos, newspaper clippings or reference letters

Terms and conditions

  • All nominees for the Pastor Glen Gray Award must be a registered school chaplain (not a wellbeing officer) and currently placed in a Redlands Coast school (State, Catholic or Independent)
  • Nominations may be submitted by anyone within the Redlands Coast school communities who wishes to recognise an outstanding chaplain. This includes colleagues, peers, parents and members of the community.
  • The nomination must address the eligibility and award criteria set out in the nomination guidelines relating to the nominee in order to be a valid nomination. 
  • Nominators must be over the age of 18 years
  • Nominations will be reviewed and evaluated by the appointed award selection panel
  • The award selection panel will make their decision based on the criteria and the supporting information provided with each nomination
  • The award selection panel reserve the right to deem a nomination void or not appropriate at their discretion
  • The award selection panel’s decision is final and no further correspondence will be considered
  • Regard will be given to the nominee’s achievements in 2023, as well as their past achievements and ongoing contribution to their school community
  • Self-nominations are not accepted
  • Nominations must be made online via the official online nomination form with a link provided by Redland City Council
  • Nominations provided in hard copy or by way of email, USB or cloud storage will not be accepted
  • Previous winners of a Pastor Glen Gray Award in the last three years are not eligible for nomination
  • Further supporting information may be requested after submitting a nomination including photographs, videos, newspaper clippings or reference letters
  • Nominations must be received by 4pm, Monday 14 August 2023
  • Late nominations will not be considered. No responsibility will be taken for nominations that are not received by the closing date
  • By submitting a nomination you are deemed to have accepted these Terms and Conditions.
  • Personal information that is provided with the nominations, will be collected and used in accordance with the Council’s Privacy Policy (a copy of which is available at www.redland.qld.gov.au), for the purpose of the selection panel reviewing the nomination.  
  • The winner will be announced at the Redland City Mayoral Prayer Breakfast on Friday 8 September 2023
