Environmental Partnerships

Environmental Partnerships offer advice and support to landholders who would like to make a difference to Redlands Coast natural environment.

The Voluntary Conservation Agreement Program (VCA) is a formal arrangement between a landholder and Council to conserve and manage bushland on private property. It is voluntary and free to join.

As a landholder, when you join the VCA program you will sign a statutory covenant on the title of the property which is legally binding. This covenant can cover part or all of your property.

Benefits to landowners

  • A yearly grant for the first 10 years of the program, up to 66% of the annual general rates for the property.
  • Council covers the cost of surveying and covenant lodgement fees.
  • Assistance in developing a property management plan.
  • A sign to display on your property.
  • Flora and fauna identification.
  • Advice on best practise bushland management.
  • Free property management training sessions, workshops and field days.
  • Opportunities to meet other like-minded landholders and share knowledge and experiences.

Qualifying for a VCA

To be eligible for a VCA you must be committed to the protection, enhancement and management of biodiversity on your property. The property itself must:

  • Have good quality intact native vegetation of at least 1ha in size.
  • Be located in a non-residential zone as described by the Redlands City Plan.

Land for Wildlife is a voluntary free program that helps landholders provide habitat for native plants and animals on their properties with supporte from Council.

Importantly, being a registered Land for Wildlife property will not change the legal status of the property in any way.

Council is committed to improving waterways health on Redlands Coast by partnering with landholders to undertake projects to keep waterways healthy, clean and free from pollution in Hilliards Creek and Eprapah Creek catchments. These two areas have been chosen as priority locations during waterways monitoring.

The Waterways Extension program is a voluntary, action oriented program that assists private landholders with catchment and waterway management, to reduce pollutants entering waterways.

Useful links

The Koala Conservation Agreement Program (KCAP) is a partnership/legal agreement between a landholder and Council to protect and reinstate koala habitat.

The program is voluntary and free to join with an agreement running for a three to five year period. The agreement does not alter the title of the property and is extinguished at resale.

Benefits to landholders

  • annual financial support and additional in kind funding for approved projects for the life of the agreement to assist you with your conservation efforts
  • property management plan developed in partnership with Council
  • advice on bushland management practices and making your property koala friendly
  • free property management training sessions, workshops and field days
  • opportunities to meet other like-minded landholders and share knowledge and experiences
  • opportunities to borrow equipment to monitor and improve environmental values.

Qualifying for a KCAP

To qualify you must be committed to the protection and management of koala habitat on your property and:

  • have either koala habitat or food trees or the ability to support either
  • be located on the mainland or North Stradbroke Island (Minjerribah).

The Rural Support program is a partnership with Council to assist landholders in managing their property and improve environmental outcomes. It is a free voluntary program for owners of properties larger than 6000m2.

Your Backyard Garden program (YBYG) is for urban landholders and offers either a 12 month or one off version of the program.

  • 12 month program: For landholders living near Council bushland reserves or within wildlife corridors and offers up to $750 of financial assistance for approved habitat restoration projects .
  • One off program: For landholders living in more urban settings, and offers 30 free native plants from the IndigiScapes Native Nursery.
