Redland City Council Makerspace
Terms and Conditions of Use
This document sets out the terms and conditions of use for Redland City Council's (RCC) Makerspace at Cleveland Library – a place to learn new skills, create and collaborate through access to equipment and programs. You must read and agree to the terms and conditions below. Any questions regarding the below terms and conditions can be directed to Council library staff.
Training and membership
1. Prior to using any of the makerspace equipment, you must complete a safety induction workshop. If an induction is completed and the makerspace is not used for 12 months or more, a new induction will be required.
2. To use the makerspace, you must be a Redland City Council library member. If you are not currently a member, you can join here.
3. A child aged 12-15 years must be supervised by a parent or legal guardian, who has also attended the required induction workshop in accordance with condition 1 as well as accepted these Terms and Conditions of Use, while using the equipment. Children under the age of 12 are not permitted in the Makerspace.
Risks and safety measures
4. By using the makerspace, you acknowledge and agree:
(a) any use of any equipment is at your own risk;
(b) Council is not liable for any personal injury, property damage, loss, or erasure of data due to your use of any equipment;
(c) use of the media conversion equipment is at your own risk and Redland City Council is not liable for any damage to, loss or erasure of data from any media you bring to digitize. If your materials are fragile or precious, consider taking them to a professional service;
(d) you are responsible for your own safety and must follow all appropriate measures and safety practices, including those outlined during the induction workshop and/or in any relevant manufacturer instructions;
(e) any damaged or malfunctioning equipment must be reported immediately to library staff; and
(f) if you observe any unsafe behaviour or practices by other users of the makerspace, you must inform library staff immediately.
Use of the makerspace
5. When in attendance at the makerspace:
(a) you must follow the directions of library staff when using the makerspace for any purpose;
(b) you must not bring in any outside equipment without the express permission of library staff;
(c) you must only use approved materials as outlined in the induction;
(d) you must secure your own belongings and be responsible for any items you bring to use in the makerspace. Any property left at the makerspace, or in the library, will be handled in accordance with the library’s standard lost property process;
(e) you agree to be considerate of other users of the makerspace, keep the makerspace orderly and neat, and clean up after your use;
(f) you are responsible for ensuring any of the makerspace equipment and accessories remain in the makerspace;
(g) you must not act in a way that RCC considers offensive, objectionable, abusive, or disruptive. You must not use the makerspace for an illegal, unsafe, or objectionable purpose, or create any items which are illegal, offensive, objectionable, or dangerous.
6. Library staff, at their sole discretion, have the right to end any session and/or delete or remove any items, recordings or projects deemed illegal, offensive, objectionable, or dangerous.
Check permissions and copyright
7. It is your responsibility to ensure you comply with any copyright and intellectual property rights in your use of the makerspace and its equipment.
8. You must not use the makerspace and its equipment in a way that infringes the rights of any other person, including intellectual property rights.
