Makerspace at Cleveland Library
The brand-new Makerspace facility at Cleveland Library is now open! We welcome everyone in the community to stop by during the library’s opening hours to learn more about the Makerspace. We have also recently launched an online resource centre to help you gain the skills needed to get the most out of the equipment available.
Whether you're a tech enthusiast eager to bring your digital creations to life, a hobbyist keen to delve into new crafting techniques, or a student working on a school project, the Makerspace offers something for everyone.
What is the Makerspace?
It is vibrant hub for creativity and innovation. This dynamic space within Cleveland Library is designed to inspire and empower the community through hands-on experiences in technology, crafting, media and design.
What’s in the Makerspace?
With sewing machines, an overlocker, embroidery machine, Cricut, 3D printer, a media conversion station and more to come, the facility offers unlimited opportunities to discover new skills and interests! Following a free safety induction in the Makerspace, library members can then book time, at no cost, to explore the wide array of tools and resources on their own using the online reservation system, Bookable.
Register for a free induction program now.
Who can use the Makerspace?
The equipment in the brand-new facility is available to all adult and teen library members. You can become a member easily by visiting a branch or signing up online.
No children younger than 12 years old will be allowed in be in the Makerspace due to safety concerns. Children ages 12 to 15 will need to have a parent or guardian with them at all times when using the Makerspace including during the induction.
The equipment will be available for booking after a safety induction is completed and the signed completion form is uploaded to Bookable. Library members will need to create an online account on Bookable in order to book the Makerspace equipment. You can review the Terms and Conditions waiver in advance.
What can I do in the Makerspace?
The possibilities are endless! Use the sewing machines to hem a pair of pants, make birthday cards on the Cricut machines or digitise your Super 8 film.
The Makerspace encourages independent skills development. To support your journey, we have developed an online resource centre with videos and free educational materials to help you master the equipment in the space.
We will also be offering in-person introductory Makerspace equipment and software programs throughout the year. Check the What’s on calendar.
