Closed landfill sites and work updates

Closed landfills are sites that have historically been used as tips or dumps for waste disposal, which are now no longer used and are often restored for community use. There are no operational landfills in Redland City.

Current work updates

Have you seen temporary works at a closed landfill and want to know what’s happening? check the progress updates below.

Description: Due to the wet weather since early 2024, potential leachate-impacted water has been identified in two drainpipes.

Status: The fencing around the playground area has been repurposed to strengthen access restrictions to the drainpipes in preparation for the investigation works. The pipework has been cleaned, and CCTV inspections are being conducted to identify any leachate ingress. Council is currently assessing the pipe condition to determine the appropriate remediation measures.

A bigger remediation project is planned for this site, for information please visit Judy Holt Park | Redland City Council.
