Closed landfill sites and work updates

Closed landfills are sites that have historically been used as tips or dumps for waste disposal, which are now no longer used and are often restored for community use. There are no operational landfills in Redland City.

Current work updates

Have you seen temporary works at a closed landfill and want to know what’s happening? check the progress updates below.

Locations affected:

  • Drainpipes near the cricket field,
  • Playground are near Muddies Rugby Union club house,
  • Localised areas on batter slopes and valleys outside the playing fields.

Description: Due to the wet weather in Nov/Dec 2024, there are localised areas of soft ground that are being monitored across various parts of the site.

Status: Council continues to monitor conditions and allocate resources to isolate access so that conditions do not get worse. Therefore, orange safety mesh and/or temporary fence panels including signage will be installed during wet weather (if required) and then removed once conditions improve.

A bigger remediation project is planned for this site, for information please visit Judy Holt Park | Redland City Council.
